What is PBC ?

PBC is an abbreviation for Practice Based Commissioning. PBC plays a pivotal role in engaging practices and empowering clinicians to shape the health and healthcare of local populations, in this case, Rochdale.

PBC in Rochdale enables Primary Care professionals to redesign services that better meet the needs of their patients. Patients can then benefit from a greater variety of services, in settings that are closer to home or more convenient for them. They will also benefit from reduced waiting times when they do need to go to hospital.

At GPCARE we aim for PBC to lead to high quality services for our patients, bringing care closer to home. This can mean a greater range of services available within GP surgeries, in other local settings e.g. community pharmacies or in peoples own homes. We aim to ensure that the decisions made, reflect the diverse needs of our local patients and that our ideas improve quality of care.
Practice Based Commissioning will lead to high quality services for patients in local and convenient settings. GPs, nurses and other primary care professionals are in the prime position to translate patient needs into redesigned services that best deliver what local people want and need.

With PBC as our core function, the patient’s healthcare is at the heart of everything we do.
